Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Just because you live a plant-based lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself every once in a while. Personally, I’m a big fan of chocolate mousse. The rich chocolate taste is something I’ve been addicted to for a long time. However, to keep things healthy, I’ve come up with a completely sugar-free recipe. I honestly think it’s still a great dessert and love to share it with you today!

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe avocados peeled and pitted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any other plant-based milk)
  • 2 ripe bananas (the riper, the sweeter)
  • 5 Medjool dates pitted (adjusted to preferred sweetness)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • Fresh berries optional topping
  • Chopped nuts optional topping
  • Unsweetened coconut flakes optional topping
  • Mint leaves optional topping
  • Cacao nibs optional topping

Instructions

  • Start by pitting the dates and avocados. If the dates are a bit hard or dry, you can soak them in warm water for 10 minutes to soften them up, which will make them easier to blend.
  • In a food processor or high-speed blender, combine the avocados, cocoa powder, almond milk, bananas, dates, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Blend until the mixture is completely smooth. You may need to stop the blender and scrape down the sides a few times to ensure everything is well combined.
  • Taste the mousse and adjust the sweetness, if necessary, by adding more dates or bananas as needed. If the mousse is too thick, you can add a little more almond milk to reach your desired consistency.
  • Transfer the mousse to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to chill and set. This step is important as it gives the mousse a firmer texture and allows the flavors to meld together.
  • Once chilled, spoon the mousse into serving dishes. Top with your choice of fresh berries, chopped nuts, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, or mint leaves for garnish.
  • Serve the avocado chocolate mousse immediately, or keep it refrigerated until you're ready to enjoy it. The mousse can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a day.
